Record voice-over and mix music
Record narration in takes, clean up a voice, duck music and game audio under it, and hit a platform's loudness target.
Wabcut records voice-over straight onto the timeline, cleans up voices with Essential Sound presets and local AI, ducks music under dialogue, and measures loudness against the platforms' targets.
Record a voice-over#
- Choose your microphone in Settings > "Audio": "Microphone", "Test input", "Count-in", "Pre-roll", "Post-roll" and "Monitor input".
- Arm a track with the microphone button in its track header, or press R in the "Audio Track Mixer".
- Put the playhead where the narration starts and click the Program Monitor's microphone button ("Record Voice-over").
- Space stops; Esc cancels.
Choose a take#
Recording again over the same place makes a new take instead of replacing the last one. Open the "Takes" panel to pick the take you want.
Clean up a voice#
- Select the voice clips and open "Essential Sound" in the left rail.
- Choose "Dialogue" and pick a "Preset". For a gaming mic, "Streamer voice (mic: denoise, gate, EQ, compressor, de-esser, limiter)" cleans and levels the voice to -16 LUFS.
Every effect a preset adds stays editable in "Effect Controls". Enhance Speech and stem separation, which pull a voice out of noise or split a mix into parts, run locally on your computer.
Put music under the voice#
- Put the music on its own track.
- In "Audio Tools", use "Auto-duck music under dialogue", with "Amount", "Attack", "Release" and "Hold". "Preview ducking" shows the keyframes before anything changes.
Or, in "Essential Sound", tag the music as music and pick "Background music (ducked under dialogue)".
To keep game audio under your commentary, ask the Assistant (palette > "Ask AI…") to "duck the game under my voice". The Game track dips about 10 dB while you talk and comes back between sentences, as volume keyframes you can edit.
Hit a loudness target#
In "Audio Tools", choose "Analyze loudness", then "Normalize to target":
| Target | Loudness |
|---|---|
| "YouTube" | -14 LUFS |
| "Podcast" | -16 LUFS |
| "Broadcast (EBU R128)" | -23 LUFS |
| "Custom" | Your own value |
"Preview normalization" shows the change first.
Add effects from other makers#
