Install Wabcut
Download Wabcut for Windows, or try the Linux and macOS previews, and get past the first-start warnings.
Wabcut is free, with no account and no subscription. Every download comes straight from the latest release on GitHub, and the download page picks the right file for your computer.
What you need#
| Windows | Linux (preview) | macOS (preview) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| System | Windows 10 (22H2) or 11, x64 | x64: Ubuntu 24.04, Fedora 40 or another distribution of that age or newer; X11 or Wayland (through XWayland) | macOS 13 Ventura or newer on Apple silicon (M1 or later). Intel Macs are not supported. |
| Graphics | A DirectX 11 GPU | A GPU driver with Vulkan or OpenGL | Apple silicon |
| Memory | 16 GB recommended, 8 GB minimum. Local AI models need more. | Same | Same |
| Disk | 2 GB for the app, plus room for caches and proxies | Same | Same |
On Windows, Wabcut uses hardware decoding and encoding when your GPU has it: NVIDIA NVENC/NVDEC, AMD AMF and Intel Quick Sync. Linux also needs PipeWire or PulseAudio for sound.
Install on Windows#
There are two packages with the same app inside. Choose one.
The installer (MSI). It installs for your user only, with no administrator rights.
- Double-click
wabcut-<version>-windows-x64.msi. - Keep the folder it suggests,
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Wabcut, or choose another. - On the options page, tick "Open .wabcut project files with Wabcut" if you want to open projects by double-clicking them. It starts unticked.
Wabcut then appears in the Start menu and in Settings > Apps.
The portable ZIP. Unzip wabcut-<version>-windows-x64-portable.zip anywhere, a USB drive for example, and run
bin\wabcut.exe. Nothing is installed.
Admins can install silently:
msiexec /i wabcut-<version>-windows-x64.msi /qn [INSTALL_ROOT="D:\Apps\Wabcut"] [WABCUT_ASSOCIATE=1]
Install on Linux (preview)#
- AppImage: make it executable with
chmod +x wabcut-<version>-linux-x64.AppImage, then run it. - Archive: unpack
wabcut-<version>-linux-x64.tar.gzanywhere and runbin/wabcut.
Install on macOS (preview)#
- Open
wabcut-<version>-macos-arm64.dmgand drag Wabcut to Applications. - The app isn't notarized yet, so macOS refuses the first start. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway.
What the previews don't have yet#
The Linux and macOS builds are installed, started and made to render a project automatically before every release, but nobody has edited real projects with them yet. These features are Windows-only for now:
- local transcription (transcription with your own cloud key works);
- CLAP and VST3 audio plug-ins;
- the managed local assistant;
- zero-copy GPU decoding.
Update or uninstall#
Wabcut doesn't update itself yet: download the new version and install it over the old one.
Uninstalling (on Windows, Settings > Apps > Wabcut) removes the program files only. Your projects, autosaves, proxies, caches, downloaded AI models, settings and API keys stay.
